Oilers Stanley Cup Rings, Trophies Among Headliners at Classic Auctions' Winter 2023 Auction

The Edmonton Oilers made a habit of hoisting the Stanley Cup from 1984-1990.  Now, a collection of championship rings and trophies from one of sports’ greatest dynasties leads off Classic Auctions’ Winter catalog sale.

Two Oilers Stanley Cup rings and four personal trophies once presented to popular trainer Barrie Stafford are among more than 1,100 lots of historic and modern era sports memorabilia and cards being offered.

The Stanley Cup rings are from the 1984-85 and 1989-90 seasons while the trophies include four of the five title seasons:  1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990.

All the items, which were originally sold several years ago by Classic, retain the signed COA from Stafford.

The auction also includes numerous game-worn jerseys including Marvin “Cyclone” Wentworth’s Montreal Maroons wool sweater dating to the mid-1930s, a late 1950s Camille Henry New York Rangers jersey, a 2001 Brian Leetch Rangers alternate captain’s jersey, an Austin Matthews Maple Leafs photo matched playoff jersey and a 1980s Bob Gainey Montreal Canadiens captain’s jersey.

More than a dozen items from the career of Eric Lindros are offered including multiple game-used sticks and jerseys, highlighted by his 1994-95 Flyers captain’s jersey from a season in which he won the Hart and Pearson awards.

Rings and awards offered include Rick Chartraw’s 1977-78 Canadiens Stanley Cup ring, Guy LaFleur’s signed 1977-78 Hart Memorial Trophy plaque with his signed COA, Frank “Buzz” Boll’s 1937-38 Map le Leaf’s 14k gold medal in the original box and a variety of Grey Cup rings.

There are 375 trading card lots from across multiple sports and eras, led by a 1923-24 William Paterson V145-1 near set including several PSA graded rookie cards that are key to the set, a 1966-67 Topps USA Test set including a PSA 5.5 Bobby Orr, a a951-52 Parkhurst hockey set, a 2003-04 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Autographed Ultimate Rookie LeBron James (121/250) graded PSA 9, a PSA 4 1923 Maple Crispette V117 Babe Ruth, a PSA 9 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Mike Trout rookie autograph card and a collection of Wayne Gretzky cads including six rookies (three OPC and three Topps).

Its record-setting $1.275 million sale of Paul Henderson’s iconic 1972 Team Canada jersey (Guinness World Record for the most expensive hockey uniform ever sold) is only one example of its sterling record in achieving the best possible results for its clients, both buyers and sellers.
