Playing three (3) seasons with his hometown Grums IK before moving on to the top flight Västra Frölunda IF between 1970 and 1975, Willy Lindstrom would make his North American debut in the World Hockey Association as a member of the Winnipeg Jets in 1975, winning a trio of AVCO World Cups over a four (4) year span. Transitioning into the National Hockey League with the Jets for the 1979-80 season and going on to play a total of 582 NHL games with the likes of Winnipeg, Edmonton and Pittsburgh, winning Stanley Cups with the Oilers in 1984 and 1985, Lindstrom would return home to Sweden in 1987 and play three (3) seasons with Brynas IF in the SHL to close out his career. Offered here, we present this this highly desirable 1977-78 Winnipeg Jets WHA Avco Cup Championship trophy was presented to the Swedish superstar. Standing 13” tall and featuring a silver-plated bowl mounted atop a Lucite section containing a pewter globe, “The Avco World Trophy” and “Willy lindstrom – Winnipeg Jets” is engraved on two affixed silver plaques placed directly beneath. An additional plaque is affixed to the reverse listing all team members and “Presented to the Winnipeg Jets - World Champions – 1977-78.” Produced by Balfour, the trophy presents well, with tarnishing seen to the base, middle band and bowl as well as the plaques, the heaviest amount being observed over the aforementioned base. Remaining free of any obtrusive dings but slightly separating from the base at the bottom which is worthy of mention, the trophy hails from Lindstrom's personal collection and is accompanied by his signed Letter of Authenticity.
Additionally, also included with the lot is an equipment bag used by Lindstrom during his time with the Jets. A lightweight vinyl/nylon material offering in Winnipeg's primary blue colour that features heavyweight blue canvas handles sewn to either side, both sides display white coloured "Winnipeg Jets" wordmark/primary logos while Lindstrom's number "20" appears over both ends as well as the top in white numerals. Having had "Liam Lindstrom" (Willy's son) and "Stromsbro IF" penned over the top in black marker ink that has faded with age, the zipper closure remains fully functional and a padlock, missing its key, is clasped to the "D" ring at one end. Showing evidence of heavy use and numerous trips, many scratches, scuffs and other marks are seen in the body of the bag as well as a few cuts and holes.
