Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Combining to play a total of 331 games in the National Hockey League in the decade of the 1960s, offered here is this pair of twigs that includes one used by Wayne Rutledge as a member of the Los Angeles Kings in the late-1960s and one issued for use by Don Simmons of the Toronto Maple Leafs during the early-to-mid-1960s.
Starting with the Rutledge example, a Northland Pro model offering with a heavily faded/worn "Rutledge" stamp found over the bottom portion of the shaft, additional stamps for equipment provider "W. A. Goodman & Sons Los Angeles, Calif" is found over both sides of the upper shaft. Featuring Rutledge's original white tape job around the handle/knob and paddle plus blade, the tape around the blade has become tattered from age and the stripping accent around the paddle is still mostly intact. Displaying good game-use, puck marks exist throughout the blade tape while other marks and abrasions are found throughout the stick as well along with wear to the underside of the blade and heel.
For the Simmons stick, a CCM Pattern Made Custom Pro model with "Simmons" stamped over the shaft along with "Bonded Fiberglass Warp", the stick appears to never have been taped in any area and remains in overall good condition despite a number of marks and abrasions that are found throughout the entirety of the piece.
