Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
The second Major League Baseball team to call the great white north of Canada home, the Toronto Blue Jays would be the first Canadian team to win the World Series and bring it north of the border, doing so in back-to-back seasons of 1992 and 1993 on the backs of timely hitting and shut down pitching over the course of 162 regular season games and playoff match ups with the best teams in baseball at the time. Offered here, we present this pair of Toronto Blue Jays multi-signed matted displays. For the first of the two, titled "1992 World Series Champions" and featuring an 11" x 14" image of the celebration after the final out in Atlanta, the piece measures out to full dimensions of approximately 22 1/2" x 19 1/2" with a Blue Jays lapel pin at the top and an information plaque at the bottom underneath. Having been signed by the likes of Pat Gillick, Todd Stottlemyre, Rance Mullinicks, Joe Carter, David Wells, Alfredo Griffin, Tom Henke, Pat Borders, Devon White, Roberto Alomar, Mike Timlin, John Olerud and Juan Guzman, all the autographs have been penned in blue marker ink and display well with some showing light fading from age. Double matted under light grey and navy, the piece remains in good condition with some light marks to the surface of the mattes as well as at the corners and edges that is worth mentioning for accuracy. For the second piece, titled "Exhibition Stadium" and featuring a large 16" x 20" image of the exterior of Toronto's first Major League home, a trio of lapel pins are found at the top of the piece with an information plaque underneath. Signed by a total of twenty-eight (28) Blue Jays alumni in blue marker ink with the autographs displaying well with only some showing light fading and wear from age/exposure, notables that have signed include; Doug Ault, Jesse Barfield, Buck Martinez, Cito Gaston, Ernie Whitt, Tom Henke, Jimmy Key, Dave Steib, Bill Singer and Kelly Gruber along with many others. Triple-matted to full dimensions of approximately 28" x 24", the piece remains in good condition with light wear to the surface of the photo and matte as well as light wear to the edges and corners. A perfect additional to any Blue Jays collection, a JSA Auction LOA will accompany the piece.
