Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Posting an impressive .915 save percentage spread over 43 regular-season games, the 2009-10 NHL campaign was the fourth full season for Tim Thomas in Beantown, with the Michigan native also serving as backup for the US at the Winter Olympics that season, a year after capturing the first (1st) of two (2) Vezina Trophy's during his career. Offered here, we present this photo-matched mask worn by Thomas during the 2009-10 campaign. A Sportmask Mage Pro Custom bucket that is complete with an intact strapping system and padding on the interior (except for the chin cup) as well as the sweatband, a large white cats eye cage is found affixed to the front of the piece while the design and paint job is the work of noted mask artist Steve Nash of EyeCandyAir and is entitled "Beware of Bear 5". Featuring Boston's familiar logo over the crown of the head, a large snarling bear graces the left side of the mask in Boston's yellow, black and white colourway while its paw and claws are seen over the right side in a seemingly swiping motion. Sporting "Beware of Bear" over the backplate in the silhouette of Boston's alternate logo, "TT" is found over the bottom edge while a paw displaying the nicknames of Thomas' kids appears over the lower left. Also displaying affixed EyeCandyAir stickers behind both ears on the interior of the shell, the mask shows excellent use throughout via numerous puck marks, coloured paint transfers and other abrasions, including many small chips around the edge of the shell and on the bars of the cage while larger chips and small cracks are present over the crown. Hailing directly from Thomas' personal collection and accompanied by his signed LOA, the mask has been photo-matched with Getty Image #95457973 (December 21st, 2009 vs Ottawa) to various puck and coloured marks seen over the crown/top left side of the mask as well as the chips/small cracks that grace the same area.
