Making an immediate impact, scoring in his first NHL regular-season game, a shoot-out win vs Pittsburgh on Oct 9, 2011, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins then recorded his first NHL hat-trick in just his third contest, setting an NHL record for the earliest career hat trick for a first overall pick. From the 2011 Young Stars Classic held in Penticton, BC, that preceded the NHL season, we have an Oilers jersey worn by Nugent-Hopkins while making his NHL debut, on Sept 11, 2011, accompanied by a pair of game-issued gloves and canvas display. An Elite label and size “56” tag are affixed to the collar, with Reebok and NHL crests over the reverse and front necklines respectively. Styled with the familiar oil drop team crest, “72” appears over the sleeves and verso in tri-colour tackle twill, with “Nugent-Hopkins” across the affixed nameplate in single white twill. We should note that Nugent-Hopkins only wore #72 at the Young Stars Classic. A team LOA will accompany.
A MeiGray patch numbered “I06102” resides on the inside hem near the “Set #1” team patch, and according to their population report, the jersey is a “Blue Retro – Young Stars Tournament – Edmonton Oilers Debut 9/11/11 in Penticton” example.
Sporting just very light wear including a few fabric pulls, the jersey remains in beautiful condition. The gloves are CCM models in Oilers colours, with this style of glove worn during his rookie season, with “R.N.H.” screened to each. The canvas is approx 12” x 14” and shows Nugent-Hopkins in game-action during the tournament.
