Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Their 6th season of play in the Major League, the 1974 edition of the Montreal Expos would finish the year with a record of 79-82 during the regular season, finishing fourth (4th) in the National League East for a second (2nd) consecutive year. Led offensively by Mike Jorgensen and seeing the Major League debut of future Hall of Famer Gary Carter, offered here is this game bat of Ron Fairly that has been signed by 20+ members of the 1974 Montreal Expos. A Louisville Slugger made offering with "Genuine", Fairly's signature and "Louisville Slugger" branded into the barrel, a Louisville Sluggers/Hillerich & Bradsby emblem is branded into the neck of the bat as well. Having had an "S2" model number stamped into the knob with Fairly's number "6" penned over it in now faded black marker ink, "32" has been penned over the knob as well in black ballpoint pen ink also. Uncracked and intact, the bat shows no real evidence of game-use and remains in overall excellent condition other than a couple of handling marks that are seen throughout. Measuring roughly 34 1/4" in length and weighting roughly 32.5 ounces, light wear is seen over the end of the barrel and no pine tar has been added to the handle. Having been lightly sanded down over the barrel area to facilitate the signatures better, those that have signed the stick include; Duke Snider, Gene Mauch, Ken Singleton, Bob Bailey, Chuck Taylor, Tim Foli, Bob Stinson, Ron Fairly, Steve Rogers, Ron Hunt, Mike Torrez and numerous others. All having signed the bat in black marker ink, all the signatures remain legible and easy to read.
