A veteran of 49 NHL regular-season games spread over 6 seasons, netminder Rick Heinz would see action with the St Louis Blues (46 games) and Vancouver Canucks (3 games) from 1980 to 1985, with additional time spent in the AHL, IHL and CHL. This attractive photo-matched goal mask was produced by maker Gary Warwick, and was used by Heinz in the early-1980s with the Blues, the CHL’s Salt Lake Golden Eagles, and the Vancouver Canucks – with Heinz remembering wearing the mask for the final time when he took a puck to the eye that required 24 stitches from Canucks’ teammate Lars Lingren during a morning skate late in the 1981-82 season. At 13” from the top of the forehead to the bottom of the chin and finished in solid white, the original strapping with Cooper SK2 plastic back plate remains intact, along with the majority of the interior padding. A single remaining yellow star graces the top section, with numerous such stars originally affixed to the mask.
Crazing, along with numerous hairline cracks are present over the surface, with the mask remaining completely solid. There are also chips, scrapes, cuts and marks, with a few small areas of both red and blue paint transfer visible. There is also some blood staining to the top strap. Regarding the aforementioned photo-match, an included numeric head shot image during his time with the Blues has been matched to the chip above the right eye, to the chip on the back edge just above the upper right strap, and to the black circular spot on the forehead, above the right eye. An included signed 8” x 10” photo of Heinz in game action with the Blues wearing this mask has also been used for a photo-match, with the black circular spot on the forehead above the right eye visible in the image.
