This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/4/2024
A product of the Ontario Hockey League's Sudbury Wolves who would be drafted by both the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (30th overall) and Cincinnati Stingers of the World Hockey Association (7th overall) in 1976, Randy Carlyle would chose the route of the NHL and go on to play a total of 1055 games in the league with the likes of Toronto, Pittsburgh and Winnipeg before enjoying additional time in the league as a bench boss after retirement. Offered here, we present this Penguins jersey worn by Carlyle during the second half of the 1980-81 season. A set #2 heavyweight mesh construction offering made by Sandow SK, both brand labeling displaying a faded size "46" designation in black ballpoint pen ink and a washing instructions label are affixed to the inner collar while "Sandow SK" is screened on over the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a familiar Penguins team crest that has been administered in a screened on style, the distinguished captain's "C" has been sewn on over the left breast in the form of a layered tackle twill letter. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Carlyle's number "25" in screened on black-over-yellow screened on numerals, "Carlyle" is spelt out in matching style dual layer tackle twill letters across the affixed matching mesh nameplate at the top of the reverse. Sporting a garter and loop style fight strap on the interior of the jersey, the garment shows evidence of game-wear via stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves as well as board burns over both sleeves and a small unrepaired hole over the lower front. Also exhibiting a small team repair on the left sleeve, some spot stains throughout and light damage to the numbers on the reverse, the interior of the jersey includes pilling that is worth mentioning for accuracy also.
