The first year of play for the rival league of the World Hockey Association, Paul Andrea would jump ship to the WHA from the Buffalo Sabres organization after playing 150 total games in the NHL. Suiting up for two years with the Cleveland Crusaders and registering 10 points in 9 games played during the 1973 playoffs against Philadelphia and New England, offered here is this Crusaders jersey worn by Andrea during the team's inaugural season of 1972-73. A heavy durene knit offering made by Rawlings, the company's red coloured tag that displays a size "46" designation is sewn inside the reverse hem while the white lace that was once fed through the tie-neck collar has gone missing over time. Decorated over the front with a Crusaders team crest in layered tackle twill that also sports beautiful chain-stitched embroidered details, the sleeves and verso of the garment have been accented with Andrea's number "21" in sewn on single layer white twill numerals while "Andrea" is spelt out in matching style letters that have been sewn directly to the material at the top of the reverse. Void of a fight strap on the interior, the jersey exhibits game-wear the form of a pair of team repairs in the right sleeve near the elbow, stick marks over the front and left sleeve and board burns scattered through the body and sleeves as well. Additionally, a small number spot stains are observed throughout the piece, heaviest on the reverse and worth mentioning for accuracy. Finally, pilling is found on the interior throughout the body and sleeves. Of note, the LOA accompanying the piece lists the jersey as being from 1973-74.
