Skating for Chicago’s NHL and WHA franchises, Pat Stapleton is best remembered for his 8 seasons with the Black Hawks, with the Sarnia native also a member of Team Canada at the 1972 Summit Series. We have a Hawks jersey attributed to the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame member in the early-1970s, with Stapleton wearing the #12 sweater until the conclusion of the 1972-73 season. A frayed and mostly detached Wilson label remains along the collar, with the vintage cross-over V-neck sweater measuring-out to roughly a size 52. Styled with the famous multi-coloured Indian head team crest with chain-stitched detailing, “12” appears over the sleeves and verso in single white twill, with matching chain-stitched tomahawk crests over each shoulder. While no fight strap is present, the durene sweater sports custom-shortened sleeves, with no evidence of any numbers or team crest changes.
Possibly recycled by Chicago either for additional seasons or farm team use as was typical with Black Hawks jerseys from the period, just a few marks from game use are present, with material runs and numerous team repairs visible, including beneath the team crest and over each sleeve, with a large example just above the left cuff. There is also a bit of wear/fraying to the chain-stitched detailing on the team crest, with heavy pilling to the interior and a small hole near the left elbow.
