Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Named in honour of the inaugural president of the NHL, the Calder Memorial Trophy was first won in 1936-37, with voting conducted annually by members of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association to present the coveted award to "the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League”. 87 players have been honoured with selection, with a number of legendary superstars including Terry Sawchuk, Bobby Orr, Mario Lemieux and Alex Ovechkin. This 11” x 14” photo of the important trophy has been signed by 22 past winners. Featuring attractive thin gold ink signatures placed on either side of the award, most have added their winning season, with deceased signers to include Gump Worsley, Boom Boom Geoffrion and Howie Meeker, along with Bobby Rousseau, Ed Belfour, Denis Potvin, Gilbert Perreault, Frank Mahovlich, Luc Robitaille, Alexander Ovechkin, Steve Larmer, Martin Brodeur, Andy Raycroft, Mario Lemieux, Derek Sanderson, Peter Stastny, Tony Esposito, Dale Hawerchuk, Mike Bossy, Dany Heatley, Bryan Trottier and Joe Nieuwendyk. The signatures present beautifully with just light wear to the photo, and we should note that the Ovechkin signature was acquired by our consignor in person. A COA from Frozen Pond will accompany.
