Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
On November 8, 1952, the great Maurice Richard surpassed legendary goal scorer Nels Stewart - who was in attendance - as the leading goal scorer in the history of the NHL by scoring goal number 325 against Chicago's Al Rollins. We have a make-up kit that was presented to the Rocket's wife along with a wallet, with both pieces originating from the personal collection of Maurice Richard. The gold-coloured make-up kit is engraved on top in French: "To Madame Maurice Richard in honor of Maurice's 325th goal on November 8, 1952 Canadiens Hockey Club" There are a few scratches, and some light wear overall. The beige leather wallet has "Maurice Richard 325" tooled on front, with a CH monogram for the Canadiens logo on the back, and the inscription "Good luck to the greatest hockey player" inside. Found in the wallet is a piece of cardboard with "Bonne Chance Maurice" and "De Tony Demers", with Demers apparently gifting the wallet to Richard. Demers was a line-mate in 1942-43, and assisted on the Rocket's first NHL goal.
