Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024

Taking place on March 8th, 1956 against the rival Toronto Maple Leafs at the Montreal Forum, Maurice Richard would score career goals number 459 and 460, both power play markers, and add an assist to lead his Montreal Canadiens to a 4-3 victory, sending the Canadiens faithful home happy. Goal number 459 was his 37th of the season with his 460th serving as the game winner and his last one scored during the regular season. Maurice would add 5 goals and 14 points in 10 playoff games, leading the Habs to their first of five consecutive Stanley Cup championships, a feat unmatched to this day.
Adding to the appeal of this hallowed piece of lumber is the fact that it is signed by its wielder, Maurice Richard, with a vivid blue pen signature that has been accented with a “459 Buts” inscription alongside it. Additionally, the stick has been signed by 17 other members of the Canadiens including; Jean Beliveau, Henri Richard, Bert Olmstead, Dickie Moore, Doug Harvey, Boom Boom Geoffrion, Tom Johnson, Jacques Plante, Toe Blake, Butch Bouchard, Claude Provost, Don Marshall, Jean Guy Talbot, Wally Clune, Bob Turner, Floyd Curry and Jack LeClair. All the signatures have been signed in pen and remain legible.
A CCM Pattern Made Professional model with stamping of such information over each side of the shaft, the right side sports a “Supplied by Raymond Hardware Sporting Goods Ltd.” stamp near the top. “Custom made for Richard 9” is stamped under the Rocket’s original black tape job that covers the handle/knob with matching black wrapping found covering the blade as well. Showing an intact accent sticker near the bottom of the shaft, the stick exhibits good game-use with a tear to the tape seen on the backhand side of blade that exposes a puck mark and crack underneath it along with a chip to the bottom edge. A small tape tear is also seen near the toe, once again on the backhand side, with an age crack to the tip of the blade present as well. Black marks are seen at the heel and throughout the shaft while a chip is seen above the striping accent. Finally, thin white paint streaks are seen in the middle of the stick with some type of residues residing over the “supplied by” part of the Raymond Hardware stamp. The stick will come accompanied by a Classic Auctions LOA.
