Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens with the 37th overall pick at the 1979 NHL Entry Draft, Mats Naslund would suit up with both Timra IK and Brynas IF in his native Sweden from the mid-1970s to early-1980s, finally making his NHL debut during the 1982-83 season and going on to play a total of 651 games in the National Hockey League over the course of his career. Helping the Habs to a Stanley Cup championship in 1986, Naslund would be named to a quartet of NHL All-Star Games over the course of his career and win a pair of Olympic medals with Sweden, including a gold in 1994. Named "Swedish Player of the Year" in 1980, a member of the esteemed "Triple Gold Club" and inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2005, offered here is this Canadiens jersey worn by Naslund during the 1986-87 season. Made by CCM, both Maska and born-on date labels reading "86 04" are affixed to the inner collar while the CCM logo has been embroidered into the reverse hem. Measuring out to roughly a size "48" for its effort, the front of the jersey is decorated with Montreal's famed "CH" team crest in layered tackle twill while the distinguished captain's "C" that was worn by Naslund on occasion during the season when Bob Gainey was injured has been hastily sewn on over the left breast. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Naslund's number "26" in dual layer blue-over-red tackle twill numerals, "Naslund" is spelt out in single layer blue twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Retaining its fight strap on the interior, the jersey shows good game-wear throughout including light stick marks and coloured board paint transfers throughout the front and both sleeves while team repairs totaling approximately thirty (30) are strewn throughout the sleeves as well. Also sporting board burns over both sleeves and over the left shoulder, the interior shows good pilling throughout that is worth mentioning for accuracy. Hailing from Naslund's personal collection, the jersey is accompanied by his signed LOA.
