Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
On top of the WHA hockey world in 1978-79 despite serious competition including a teenage Wayne Gretzky, the Winnipeg Jets would claim their second-consecutive Avco Cup championship in 1979, the third in franchise history, a feat matched by no other club. We have a 1978-79 Winnipeg Jets Avco Cup championship 10K gold and diamond ring, with this example presented to Jets’ Executive Director of Business Operations, Marc Cloutier. Size 10 with an approx. weight of 30 grams, a raised Jets logo sits centered over the tableau with three diamonds, one for each Avco Cup win, encompassed by “WHA Champions” in raised and angled letters. The right shank has an image of the Avco Cup with “1979” along with “Cloutier” above, while the left contains a pair of engraved scrolls listing the Cup wins, with “Winnipeg Jets” above, and “WHA ’72-‘79” and “NHL ‘79” below. The inner band is stamped "Jostens 10K", with "Wpg 7 - Edm 3" engraved, the score of the final WHA game ever played.
Moderate to heavier wear is present on the desirable keepsake, with numerous scratches throughout along with considerable wear and rubbing, especially along edges. There are also a few small nicks and grooves visible. The ring will be accompanied by its original Jets’ wooden presentation box featuring a plexiglass swivel lid with Jets logo, with a label affixed with “Cloutier”.
