Issued by Canadian company World Wide Gum Company of Montreal, the confectioner borrowed many of the U.S.-based Goudey Gum Co.'s designs for the cards that the latter concern distributed north of the border in 1933, including its colourful design that has been a longstanding hit with collectors. Initially looking to be perfect copies of their corresponding Goudey offerings, a quick glance at the backs reveals that text is provided in French as well as English. Much more difficult to find than their American counterparts, offered here is this near complete set of the 1934 World Wide Gum (Canadian Goudey) baseball release that includes eighty-seven (87) of the ninety-six (96) cards making up the complete checklist. Missing the specimens of 19-Frankhouse, 21-Coombs, 28-Babe Ruth, 30-Malone, 40-Rollings, 56-Klein, 70-Vaughan, 91-Stripp and 92-Lou Gehrig, the group is paced by a first group of notables that includes the likes of 1-Hornsby (FR to G - corner and border wear), 29-Speaker (GOOD - light long crease running from top-to-bottom), 55-Dean (GOOD - small dot marks over the front and a scratch on the back) and 58-Foxx (GOOD - light long crease running from top-to-bottom), other notables found throughout the contingent include those featuring names such as 16-Pennock (PR to F - creases and corner wear), 32-Rixey (FR to G - multiple light creases), 54-Grove (FR to G - multiple light creases), 57-Gehringer (FR to G - creasing), 59-Coachrane (GOOD - crease that shows on the reverse at the top right), 64-Frisch (FR to G - large crease that shows more on the reverse), 67-Waner (FR to G - dot marks - corner wear and light crease), 69-Durocher (VG to VG-EX - light corner wear), 71-Hubbell (PR to F - multiple creases), 82-Lombardi (GOOD - light creases) and 84-Appling (PR to F - creases and faded). For the rest of the overall conditions seen throughout the set, four (4) cards present around VG to VG-EX, ten (10) cards are roughly in the range of G to VG, eighteen (18) cards are found to be in the scope of FR to G, twenty-six (26) cards are in the vicinity of PR to F and finally, fourteen (14) cards show as PR. A seldom seen pre-war grouping, don't miss out on these diamond kings for your esteemed vintage portfolio!
