Playing his college hockey with the Bemidji State Beavers and going undrafted, Joel Otto signed as a free agent with the Moncton Golden Flames of the AHL for the 1984-85 season, Calgary's primary minor league affiliate and would make his National Hockey League debut the same season. Going on to establish himself as one of the top defensive forwards for both the Flames and in the entirety of the NHL, Otto would go on to play a total of 943 games in the league with the likes of Calgary and Philadelphia, winning a Stanley Cup with the Flames in 1989. Also a frequent member of Team USA in international competition, offered here is this Flames jersey worn by Otto during Calgary's Stanley Cup championship season of 1988-89. Made by CCM and sporting a washed out Maska Airknit label affixed to the inner collar, the jersey is a "Set #1" example from the season it hails from (the second set of jerseys from this season was recycled into the 1989-90 season and had Calgary's 10th anniversary patch added over the left shoulder) and measures out to roughly a size "52" for its effort. Having had a CCM logo embroidered into the reverse hem and decorated over the front of the jersey with a Flames team crest in stacked tri-layer satin twill, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Otto's number "29" in dual layer red-over-yellow satin twill numerals while "Otto" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Retaining its fight strap on the interior of the jersey, good game-wear is exhibited via stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, light board burns over both sleeves, unrepaired cuts over both sleeves and lower front, fabric pulls throughout, pilling on the interior and spot/sweat staining plus light discolouration from use and age.
