An absolute powerhouse on the world stage throughout the 1960s through the 1980s, the Soviet Union stormed to yet another world title in Finland in 1982, winning the nation's fourth consecutive World Championship. After outscoring their opponents 48-16 to sweep the 7-game first round, the Soviets coasted to gold with wins against Canada and Sweden in the final round before closing out with a scoreless draw against Czechoslovakia. We present a 1982 IIHF World Championship gold medal. Measuring 2 3/4" in diameter with the original blue and yellow ribbon attached and "1982" to the bail, "World Championships" appears in raised letters circling the perimeter on the obverse along with two generic players. Featuring a painted globe IIHF logo with crossed hockey sticks on the reverse, it is encompassed by "International Ice Hockey Federation" in matching style raised letters. The medal displays beautifully and remains in near mint condition.
