This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
A four-year product of the Michigan State University Spartans program who would be drafted 21st overall by the Boston Bruins at the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, Bryan Smolinski would suit up for the likes of Boston, Pittsburgh, New York, Los Angeles, Ottawa, Chicago, Vancouver and Montreal over the course of his career to the tune of 1055 games played in the National Hockey League over that time. Also having represented Team USA on numerous occasions, offered here is this New York Islanders jersey worn by Smolinski during the 1996-97 season. An air-knit construction garment made by CCM, size "54" and "Made in Canada" labels are affixed to the inner collar while both the CCM and NHL shield emblems have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a familiar Islanders team crest in a layered tackle twill style that also sports embroidered details, the glue outline of the Islanders' 25th anniversary patch that was once in place over the right breast is still visible after being removed by the team. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Smolinski's number "15' over the sleeves and verso in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals, "Smolinski" is spelt out in single layer white glacier twill letters across the affixed wavy nameplate at the top of the reverse. Retaining its fight strap on the interior and signed behind the team crest by Islanders equipment manager Joe McMahon, he has dated the jersey with a penned "96-97" designation in black marker ink. Sporting matching alternate logo crests atop of both shoulders and displaying with overall good game-wear, stick marks are found over the lower front and left sleeve while board burns are seen thought the body and sleeves. Additionally, there is an unrepaired hole over the left hip, a red coloured board paint transfer mark through the bottom of the "5" on the reverse and pilling on the interior. Of note, staining/yellowing is seen in the sleeve and reverse numbers plus the letters of "Smolinski" likely due to the adhesive used to hold them down before sewing.
