Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
Coached by legendary superstar Newsy Lalonde and placing third in the Canadian Division upon the conclusion of the 1933-34 NHL regular season, the Montreal Canadiens would be defeated in the playoffs by the eventual Stanley Cup-champion Chicago Black Hawks. We have a real photo postcard of the 1933-34 squad, with four HOFers pictured. At the standard 3 ½” x 5 ½” postcard size, the image was produced by noted photographer Rice, with the full team and management posed outside a large building, possibly The Forum, including HOFers Howie Morenz, Aurel Joliat, Sylvio Mantha and Newsy Lalonde. With a clean postal reverse, the glossy surface postcard survives wonderfully, with a few creases along with some silvering. The original mailing envelope is included, with a Habs logo and "Le Club de Hockey Canadien Inc" over the upper left, and a postal stamp of Feb 26, 1934. There is wear including a few small tears on the reverse.
