The world heavyweight champion from 1926 to 1928 and remembered as a highly technical fighter, Gene Tunney also served in the Marine Corp, enlisting during WWI. The New York City native passed away in 1978 at the age of 81, and was later elected to the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1980, the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990 and the United States Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. We offer a letter and photo with both items signed by Tunney. First, the photo is an original vintage 8" x 10" image of Tunney in the ring, with his large dark ink signature over the lower left. The typed letter is on Tunney's personal letterhead dated 1971 and addressed to an advertising company on Madison Avenue, with his signature in pencil. the letter has been affixed to a backing and mounted on a matte to full dimensions of 11" x 14". Both signatures display beautifully with no issues, with just light handling wear to the photo. The letter also has a PSA/DNA sticker on the reverse. A JSA Auction LOA will accompany the lot.
