This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
77 cards larger than the set from the previous season, the 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee release rang in at 341 total cards, the biggest set released by the Canadian manufacturer up to that point and came at an important time in hockey history as the WHA entered the professional climate with its first season of play that same year. On the auction block here, we present this complete set of O-Pee-Chee's 1972-73 hockey release. Found to be in the overall fairly uniform condition ranges of EX to EX-MT and EX-MT to NM with about twenty (20) cards sporting elastic marks over their borders that are worth mentioning for accuracy, the group includes key examples of 6-Checklist, (EX-MT to NM - unmarked - slight elastic mark), 8-Dionne (EX to EX-MT - 2nd year card - slight elastic mark and bottom border wear), 14-Clarke (EX-MT - slight elastic mark), 19-Checklist (EX-MT - unmarked - 60-40 centering), 58-Orr IA (EX-MT to NM), 59-Lafleur (EX to EX-MT - slight corner wear), 111-P. Esposito (EX-MT - slight elastic mark), 129-Orr (EX-MT to NM), 145-Dryden (EX to EX-MT - 2nd year card - off-center top-to-bottom - light ding at top border), 190-Checklist (EX to EX-MT - unmarked - 90-10 centering), 227-Orr/Park AS (EX-MT to NM), 228-Hull AS (PR - large heavy creases), 247-Dryden AS (EX to EX-MT - tiny corner ding and wear at bottom right), 283-Orr AL (EX to EX-MT - slight wear to the top border), 334-Checklist (EX-MT to NM - unmarked - light surface wax) and 336-Hull (EX to EX-MT - well off-center left border). Also including a complete 28-card set featuring the players that represented Team Canada at the 1973 Summit Series against the Soviet Union, most of the Team Canada cards have light elastic marks while the examples of Ken Dryden and Paul Henderson are both seen as being around EX-MT for their efforts.
