Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Embarking on the ultimate NHL dynasty beginning in the 1955-56 season, the Montreal Canadiens would finish the regular season in first place with a record of 45–15–10 before knocking off both the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings to claim the franchise's eighth (8th) Stanley Cup championship and the first of five (5) straight. Featuring a roster that included ten (10) players that would go on to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, offered here is this stick signed by nineteen (19) members of the 1955-56 Montreal Canadiens. A generic wooden stick made by SSW (Super Strong Wood) that measures just under 54" in length, the "Extra Special Professional" model twig sports brand stamps over one side of the shaft and blade while a "Raymond's Hardware Sporting Goods Ltd" stamp graces the other side. With "Lie No. 6" stamped over the upper shaft and displaying stripping accents over the bottom of the shaft, the stick remains in good condition overall with just light marks and abrasions present throughout from handling/age while also being covered in a shellac to preserve the signatures. For the autographs, all having been signed in black or blue ballpoint pen, except for a lone modern era signature from Emile "Butch" Bouchard that is signed over the blade in black marker ink that displays without issue and includes inscriptions reading "HOF 1966" and "1955-56 Champions" in matching ink, those that have signed the stick include deceased HOFers Maurice and Henri Richard, Jean Beliveau, Jacques Plante, Boom Boom Geoffrion, Doug Harvey, Dickie Moore, Tom Johnson, Bert Olmstead, Toe Blake (coach) and the previously mentioned Bouchard, as well as Bob Turner, Claude Provost, Gerry McNeil, Jack LeClair, Floyd Curry, Don Marshall, Jean-Guy Talbot and Andre Pronovost. All the autographs display well and without issue and it needs to be noted that labels reading "1955 / 56 Canadiens" have been added over the bottom of the shaft on the side that has been signed. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the piece.
