Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Also still one of the most collectable and collected players in the hobby, offered here is this pair of cards that feature both autographs of and memorabilia worn/used by Howe. Hailing from Upper Decks' 1999-2000 Series Two and 2004-05 Ultimate Collection releases. Each sporting images of Howe over their fronts that picture him as a member of the Detroit Red Wings in either black-and-white or colour, the "500 Goal Club" card from 1999-2000 features a sliver of stick used by Howe embedded into the front of it while the Ultimate Collection card displays with an embedded swatch of red coloured durene knit material cut from a jersey worn by Howe. Serial numbered "1/25" (hand done in blue marker ink) and "3/5" respectively over their fronts, Howe has signed over the front of each card with blue marker ink signatures that display without issue, with the Ultimate Collection example also sporting Howe's famed "Mr Hockey" moniker in matching blue marker ink and condition. Remaining in their original raw ungraded form, both cards are highly desirable and remain in excellent condition overall despite light edge and corner wear that is observed on both included cards.
