Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
With an explosive breakout season in 1992-93 with Winnipeg, Teemu Selanne finished his rookie campaign with an astounding 132 points in 84 games, and he would finish his 22-year career with 1457 combined goals and assists, averaging more than a point a game. Routinely wearing the blue and white of Team Finland in international competition, Selanne, a 2017 inductee to both the Hockey Hall of Fame and IIHF Hall of Fame, would help his birth country to medals at four (4) editions of the Winter Olympic Games and a pair (2) of IIHF World Championships. Offered here, we present this stick obtained by our consignor directly from "The Finnish Flash" that was used by him in practices with Team Finland at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, where Finland won bronze over the United States. A Warrior Covert DT1 LT model twig with "T. Selanne" factory graphics over the upper shaft, partially worn "Sochi 2014" graphics are found over the backside of the shaft while the original white tape job is in place over the shaved down handle/knob and around the blade. Of note, photos of Selanne from the tournament show Selanne using this model of stick but with his usually seen black tape on the blade instead of the white that is seen here and without the "Sochi 2014" graphic that is present on the backside of the shaft. Signed by Selanne over the forehand side of the heel with a silver marker ink signature that displays with some fading, the stick shows game-use via a handful of marks and abrasions throughout the shaft, lower shaft, heel and untaped sections of the blade with the blade tape showing heavy use including many cuts/tears and puck marks over both sides.
