This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Hailing from the beginning and end of the Second World War in which both junior and senior aged hockey players from all over Canada volunteered to help the Allies fight agains the Axis, offered here is this pair of vintage hockey team photos including one for the Memorial Cup champion Oshawa Generals of 1938-39 and the Calgary RCAF Mustangs of 1944-45. Starting with the image of the Generals team of 1938-39, the squad that captured the first Memorial Cup in franchise history, the picture, displaying a heavy crease down the middle of it and sporting tears as well as tape residue stains, features a "Compliments of Mundy-Goodfellow Printing Company" at the top and measures around 9 1/2" x 7 1/2" while framed to full dimensions of 15 1/2" x 11 1/2". With the brown coloured frame that the picture is housed in showing wear throughout and void of any glass, a heavily creased/bent easel stand is affixed to the reverse and the image is displayed under a caramel coloured single layer matte. For the image of the 1944-45 Calgary RCAF Mustangs, done in a caricature style, the photograph was taken by a Cpl. C.H. Sloan based on the notation at bottom left and depicts real life headshots of the players over cartoon like bodies while wartime imagery is also viewed as well. Measuring approximately 13" x 10 1/2" and remaining in relatively good condition while being covered by glass, the frame the photo is housed in shows wear throughout as well as an easel stand over the reverse and measures out to full dimensions of roughly 14 1/4" x 11 1/2". Of note, heavy ripping is seen to the backing of the Calgary photo's frame and labels plus handwritten notations also appear as well.
