Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Playing 460 of his 550 games in the National Hockey League in the famed bleu, blanc et rouge of the Montreal Canadiens, Howie Morenz helped the "Flying Frenchmen" to a trio of Stanley Cup championships during his time with the club and won three (3) Hart Memorial Trophy's as the NHL's Most Valuable Player. Having had his numbered retired by the Habs upon his death in 1937, the first time the team had bestowed the honour upon a player, Morenz would go on to be posthumously inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945 as one of the original nine inductees. Pictured here on the front of his 1933-34 Hamilton Gum V288 hockey card, this copy of the desirable cardboard picturing "The Stratford Streak" on top of an orange background has been deemed worthy of a VG-EX 4 mark from the graders at PSA. Housed in an older style holder, the cardboard displays with overall pleasing centering despite being slightly off from right-to-left while corner and edge wear are large factors that kept it from achieving a higher grade at the time. With both surfaces remaining clean despite the presence of toning, the PSA holder shows scratches and scuffs over both sides that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
