Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/26/2024
Suiting up for the OHA Jr Galt Red Wings as a 16 year old during the 1944-45 season, Gordie Howe only played a single game for the club, on Nov 18, 1944, vs Hamilton, scoring three points. Deemed ineligible to play for the club following the game, as a maximum number of Western players allowed by the league were signed by the club, and with the team's preference to develop older players, Howe was released. He would show up the following season, playing in the minor professional United States Hockey League for the Omaha Knights. This original photo of Howe on the Galt Red Wings with teammates Bill Adams and Frenchy Mayer has been signed by the legendary superstar. At 8" x 10", the three players are pictured sitting on the bench, with a young Howe on the left. Mr. Hockey has signed in blue marker, with no issues for the signature. The rare photo shows wear with numerous indentations and small creases along with pinholes, but displays nicely overall and would look stunning in a framed display.
