Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Established in 1883 as the Brooklyn Grays and finally settling on the Dodgers moniker for good in 1932, the club originally based in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York would win the National League pennant twelve (12) times and a World Series in 1955. Moving to the West Coast after the 1957 season and setting up shot in Los Angeles, the Dodgers have added an additional twelve (12) National League titles to their trophy case as well as six (6) more World Series crowns. Offered here, we present this Los Angeles Dodgers batting helmet signed by members of the 1996 roster that was used by Mike Blowers. Made by the American Baseball Cap Company, their brand and size 7 1/4" label resides on the interior while Blowers' number "20" appears over the brim in white numbers. Having had a Dodgers decal applied over the front crown, those that have signed the piece include Tommy Lasorda, Joey Eischen, Tim Wallach, Dave Wallace, Bill Russell, Delino DeShields, Mike Piazza and others. With all the signatures appearing well for the most part despite some wear over some via smudging and scratches, the helmet is also in good shape with evidence of game-wear present through dirt marks and various marks/abrasions. Of note, some of the padding has come loose on the interior. Additionally, also included with the lot is a Dodgers hat worn by Chris Gwynn, the brother of Tony Gwynn. Made by New Era and sporting a Dodgers logo over the front two (2) panels, Gwynn's number "10" is penned to the under brim in black marker ink. From either the 1994 or 1995 seasons of play, the hat has been signed by Gwynn on the underside of the brim with a blue marker ink signature that displays well while the hat itself shows heavy signs of wear and game-use throughout via sun fading and sweat staining. A JSA Auction LOA will accompany the lot.
