Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024

A product of the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers, Ken Solheim would play a total of 135 games in his National Hockey League career after being drafted 30th overall by the Chicago Black Hawks at the 1980 NHL Entry Draft, suiting up for Chicago, Minnesota, Detroit and Edmonton. Traded by Chicago to Minnesota in December of 1980, offered here is this North Stars jersey worn by Solheim in the back half of the 1980-81 campaign. A Stall and Dean mesh construction offering that displays tagging from Minnesota provider Steichens affixed to the inner collar, size "54" and "80" year fly tags have been added to the bottom of the label as well along with a small washing instructions tag. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a North Stars team crest in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso of the desirable garment have been accented with Solheim's number "12" in dual layer white-over-yellow drop-shadow tackle twill numerals. Having had "Solheim" spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate, it should be noted that there is evidence of a former nameplate of similar length seen on the interior. Research shows that despite it saying on the accompanying LOA that the jersey was likely worn by Joe Contini during the year, no evidence of him ever having worn the number "12" can be found (listed as only wearing "24" in his lone game played) though Mike Fidler is listed as wearing the number "12" before he was traded to Hartford just before Solheim was acquired. Displaying with overall light game-wear and including a loop style fight strap on the interior, stick marks are present over the lower front and both sleeves while a couple of small board burns are found over the lower front/hem as well. Finally, there is light pilling on the interior of the jersey and light foxing/staining is present over the front crest and lower reverse that is worth noting for accuracy.
