Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
In stunning, like-new condition, these cloth crests, or team shields as they were referred to, literally look like they were produced yesterday, yet were first available to consumers of Bee Hive Corn Syrup over 80 years ago! The “stout cloth” premiums were meant to be sewn on jackets or sweaters and measure 3-3/4” by 4-1/2”. They were offered in the 1930s and into the ‘40s, with the one-year “Brooklyn” Americans example naturally the scarcest. With bright vivid colors and just a touch of fraying to a few edges, the complete set includes the defunct Montreal Maroons and New York Americans, along with the familiar teams which would come to be known as the “Original Six”. Also present are two thin paper and well-preserved sheets, (a small light crease in each), describing how to obtain the shields from the famous St. Lawrence Starch Company of Port Credit, Ontario. This is one exceptionally sweet collection!
