Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/26/2024
A set consisting of two-hundred (200) cards that were cut from the backs of cereal boxes, the 1962 Post Canadian baseball release is much rarer than its American counterpart, due to limited distribution in the Great White North, and holds even scarcer examples of a number of players. Seldomly seen and seldomly graded, with PSA having inspected 12,069 of the American version Post Cereal cards throughout their history, compared to only 2099 of the Canadian released cards, offered here is this scarce complete set of the 1962 Post Cereal Canadian baseball release. Including all two-hundred (200) cards that make up the checklist and with an overall average grade range throughout of EX or thereabouts, some things to note that there are roughly fourteen (14) cards that present with a crease, around eight (8) cards that were cut poorly, roughly forty-three (43) cards that display tape residue on their reverses and finally, a total of seven (7) cards that have pieces of scrapbook paper still attached to their backs. Also including a copy of card #151 that has ink writing on the reverse and extra copies of card #'s 33, 82 and 188-Banks, the extra copy of the card picturing "Mr. Cub" over it has a light stain over the front that is worth noting for accuracy.
For the key cards, included are those of 5-Mantle (EX - slight dings to the bottom corners), 6-Maris (EX to EX-MT), 7-Berra (VG to VG-EX - ding at the bottom left and a slightly miscut top border), 9-Ford (EX to EX-MT), 20-Kaline (VG-EX to EX - ding at the bottom left), 29-B. Robinson (EX - slight amount of discoloration at the top border), 61-Yastrzemski (VG to VG-EX - mis-cut along bottom border), 85-Killebrew (VG to VG-EX - mis-cut along bottom border and scrapbook paper on the reverse), 109-Koufax (VG-EX to EX - light glue residue on the reverse), 110-Drysdale (G to VG - light crease and one side has a light mis-cut), 114-Snider (VG to VG-EX - light glue residue on the reverse), 122-F. Robinson (EX to EX-MT), 136-Cepeda (VG-EX - small ding at bottom left and slight miscut at the top border), 142-Mays (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear to bottom points), 147-Mathews (VG-EX to EX - light glue residue on the reverse), 149-Aaron (EX to EX-MT), 173-Clemente (EX - light glue residue on the reverse and a slight miscut at the top border) and 188-Banks (G to VG - crease). Additionally, joining the cards is the accompanying collectors album that was issued by the company as well. Measuring just shy of 8 1/2" x 11" in size and remaining in good condition with just toning, light handling wear and a small amount of the top right corner missing, there is also a couple of small stains over the cover, which displays "Baseball Trading Card Collector's Album" over the top in red letters and the generic image of a ball player at bat below. With each team represented on the interior and spots marked out for the cards of that team's players to be pasted into, a paragraph of information on each franchise is found at the top of the pages. A true rarity full of Hall of Famers and Diamond Kings, don't miss out on this one for your all-important baseball collection!
