Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
The first of two (2) Canadian Football League trading card sets released by the cereal company Post, the cards measure the standard size and were issued on the backs of boxes of Post Cereals distributed in Canada. Not available directly from the company via a send-in offer as with other Post Cereal issues, the set featured a total of 137 cards in all and includes short-printed and more limited examples in its checklist, with many of the desirable "SP" offerings sporting white coloured backs instead of the typically seen brown. Released in a year that saw the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for the 50th Grey Cup, offered here is this complete assembly of the 1962 Post CFL Football release. All hand cut and having mostly been done so very carefully throughout the entirety of the contingent, the group presents in the overall consistent grade range of VG-EX to EX throughout with about thirty (30) cards being exceptions to this due to major glue marks over their reverses. Including numerous cards of key figures of the era, present are the likes of 4-Dixon (G to VG - large glue/tape mark on the reverse), 18-Mosca (VG to VG-EX - slight glue residue), 21-Lancaster (EX to EX-MT), 24-Jackson (VG to VG-EX - small crease at the bottom left corner), 25-Simpson (VG - glue residue at one corner on the reverse), 39-Gilchrist (VG-EX to EX - slight glue residue on the reverse), 46-Rote (VG-EX to EX), 53-Gideon (GOOD - crease), 57-Faloney (EX to EX-MT), 62-Patterson (EX to EX-MT), 67-Henley (EX to EX-MT - triny red print dot on the reverse), 86-Piper (G to VG - tiny crease at the left side), 113-Parker (VG to VG-EX - poorly cut), 121-Chapman (G to VG - crease that shows on the reverse), 131-Brown (VG to VG-EX - light scuff and poorly cut), 132-Hinton (GOOD - very poorly cut), 136-Beamer (G to VG - small crease) and 137-Kapp (VG-EX to EX - wear at the top border).
