Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Widely considered as one of the top three players throughout the history of the fabled Montreal Canadiens along with Rocket Richard and Jean Beliveau, Guy Lafleur enjoyed tremendous success during his Habs tenure, capturing five Stanley Cup championships, three Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Memorials and the Conn Smythe. Entering the National Hockey League during the 1971-72 season after leading the Quebec Remparts to a Memorial Cup championship the year before, offered here is this copy of Guy's coveted 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee rookie card that has been signed by the 1988 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee. Encapsulated for both preservation and display by PSA, the card has been signed by Lafleur over the front with a bold blue marker ink signature that displays with fading from age, the signature has been deemed to be "AUTHENTIC" after inspection by PSA, with this displayed across the label at the top of the holder. For the card itself, displaying an image over the front that is off center from right-to-left and retaining good colours overall for its effort, the card is largely a low-grade example due to corner wear/dings and edge wear. Also showing surface stains/imperfections in the middle, the card is housed in a good condition PSA that sports just a couple of light scratches on both sides.
