Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024

First donning the famed bleu, blanc et rouge of the Montreal Canadiens and going on to spend his entire 968 game National Hockey League career with the club, Yvan Cournoyer would help the Habs to ten (10) Stanley Cup championships during his tenure and be named captain after Henri Richard retired following the 1974-75 campaign. A member of the famed Team Canada squad that competed against the Soviet Union in the Summit Series of 1972 and a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee in 1982, offered here is this stick wielded by "The Roadrunner" during the 1972-73 season in which he posted 79 points in 67 games played plus 25 more in only 17 games played during the playoffs as Montreal captured the Stanley Cup over the Chicago Black Hawks. A Sher-Wood made P.M.P model twig with "Cournoyer Y. 12" stamped to the upper shaft, the foil accent striping stickers are still in place over the lower shaft. Retaining its original tape job of black over the shaved handle/knob and blade, a date stamp reading "20 MAR 1973" is found on the underside of the shaft near the heel. Sporting a "McNiece's" supplier stamp over the upper shaft on both the forehand and backhand sides, the stick shows just light game-wear in the form of a few small/light marks and abrasions throughout the length of the shaft while a small number of marks and signs of wear are present over both sides of the blade tape as well.
