A product of the Ontario Hockey League's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds who was drafted 83rd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Matt Murray would win the Baz Bastien Memorial Award as the American Hockey League's best goaltender and the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award as best rookie while playing for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2014-15. The first goaltender to win back-to-back Stanley Cup championships as a rookie, occurring in 2016 and 2017, offered here is this pair of pads worn by Murray during the 2017-18 season of play. Vaughn made Ventus model pillows in Pittsburgh's yellow, white and black colourway, "Vaughn" and "Ventus" logos appear over the outer roll and boot of each pad while "Vaughn" has been added over the outside of both in individually sewn on black leather letters. Having had "M. Murray" embroidered into the outside of each pad as well in black thread, the pads display excellent game-use through many puck marks over the faces of each piece as well as additional wear via sweat staining and soiling, rubbing and red paint plus dye transfers on the outside bottom portions of each leg channel and other nylon areas while fraying is observed in areas of the calf wraps as well. With all the straps and buckles present and accounted for, all are intact and still fully functional, including the skate lace toe ties at the front of each boot on the bottom. Regarding the aforementioned photo-match, the pads are matched with Getty Image #939775584 (March 23rd, 2018 vs New Jersey) to many of the puck marks seen over the face of each pad.
