Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/21/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Still one of the most collected players in the hobby and the cornerstone of the famous Howe family, offered here is this group of six (6) premium memorabilia cards featuring swatches of material taken from sweaters worn by "Mr. Hockey". Paced by a 2003-04 SP Game Used "Team Threads" triple-patch card that is serial numbered "08/10" and features Howe alongside other legends including Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, beautiful emblem swatches from each player have been embroidered into the front under the image of each player with the Howe portion including some of the intricate chain-stitched details that are found in Detroit's famed winged wheel. Also including a 2001-02 Upper Deck Premier Collection "Game Jersey" that pictures Howe during his days with the Houston Aeros and is serial numbered "2/5", an additional Premier Collection card is included via a dual jersey offering numbered "50/50" that features both Howe and "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky. For the back half of the lot, including a 2003-04 Upper Deck Premier Collection "Premier Legends" jersey card ("08/25"), a 2003-04 Upper Deck SP Game-Used "Limited Threads" jersey card ("58/75") and a 2003-04 Upper Deck Classic Portraits "Premium Portraits" jersey card ("09/25"), all the cards display in good condition with corner and edge wear/dings being the most prevalent flaws throughout the grouping.
