Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Delivering on his promise of a guaranteed victory over the Baltimore Colts at Super Bowl III, Joe Namath also served as the game’s MVP, with the win making him the first quarterback to start and win a national championship game in college, a major professional league championship, and a Super Bowl. Broadway Joe was also voted the NFL’s all-time greatest character in a survey conducted by the Associated Press of 60 football historians and media members. A full-size Riddell replica throwback model that features its original hang tags affixed to the right ear and displaying with gloss white finish, the helmet shows light handling wear via a couple of small marks and abrasions throughout. Featuring Jets logo decals over each side with the right side decal showing glue residue around it, Namath has signed above the decal on the left side in crisp black ink, with the large signature displaying well against the light background. Also including a figurine statue of Broadway Joe by Danbury Mint that measures roughly 8" tall and depicts the Hall of Fame quarterback in the motion of throwing a pass, the piece remains in excellent condition and comes with a wooden base that sports a plague over the front that reads "Joe Namath - Broadway Joe" while a gold coloured facsimile signature decorates the top side. Housed in its original packaging, the lot is closed out by a limited-edition ("52/10000") Danbury Mint card of Chad Pennington from 2003 that comes with its original case and certificate of authenticity. A JSA Auction LOA will accompany the lot for the signed Namath helmet.
