Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023

A veteran of 803 National Hockey League contests with five (5) different franchises after being selected 21st overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft, Joel Quenneville would experience his greatest successes as the head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, leading the club to Stanley Cup glory in 2010, 2013 and 2015 during his tenure. Following the franchise Colorado to their new home in New Jersey, offered here is this Devils jersey donned by Quenneville during the clubs first season on the East Coast in 1982-83. A heavy all-mesh construction garment made by Sandow SK, now faded labels from the brand are affixed to the inner collar along with a sewn in Gerry Cosby identifier below. Measuring out to roughly a size "56" and accented over the reverse hem with the rubberized logos of both Gerry Cosby and Sandow SK, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Devils team crest in layered tackle twill while the sleeves and verso have had Quenneville's number "6" sewn to them in dual layer white-over-green tackle twill numerals. Displaying a nameplate with "Quenneville" spelt out across it in matching style letters and utilizing a loop style fight strap on the interior, the jersey exhibits good game-wear via dark stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves while the left sleeve also board paint transfers and a light board burn inside the green stripe. Showing additional wear via board burns over the reverse hem and blue coloured paint transfers inside the "Q" of "Quenneville" and pilling on the interior, the jersey comes accompanied by a MeiGray LOA and COR. Of note, due to the nature of this set of jerseys commonly having been recycled for pre-season play in later years, it is hard to say conclusively if the nameplate currently affixed is the one that is original to the jersey.
Additionally, a pair of included numerical images appear to show similarities between the previously mentioned blue coloured transfers in the "Q" of "Quenneville" and the placement of the Cosby's stamp on the reverse hem but are not clear enough for us to call a definitive photo-match.
