Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
A classic mid-1970s offering from the O-Pee-Chee brand, the company's 1975-76 release included a total of 396-cards that featured a relatively simple design. With the first 330-cards being near clones of the ones produced by Topps earlier in the year, but easily discernible by the language used on the backs as well as their stock, offered here is this near-complete set of OPC's 1975-76 hockey product. Missing cards 100-Orr, 199-Gillies RC and 288-Orr AS for completion, the assembly is found to be mostly in the low-to-mid-grade range with many of the cards included in the group in the lower echelon of the grading scale due to flaws such as creases, wear to the corners and other decfects that affect most of the offerings. For the key cards, including the likes of Leafs teammates Borje Salming and Lanny McDonald as well as brothers Phil and Tony Esposito plus Brad Park and Bernie Parent, all are seen as being in the scope of EX condition for their efforts and stand out amongst many of the other cards in this particular set. Of note, the card of "Tony-O" is miscut at the top of its reverse side. Also featuring additional key cards of players such as 35-Dryden, 126-Lafleur, 140-Dionne, 150-Sittler, 181-Shutt, 241-Robinson, 250-Clarke, 275-Potvin, 290-Lafleur AS and 396-Snepsts as well as the four (4) checklist cards, all are found in low-grade condition due to previously mentioned flaws affecting all while the card of Sittler displays with writing on the back. Additionally, the cardboard picturing Bobby Clarke has a pin hole through the top of it and all the checklist cards have been marked. Overall, a good grouping of lower-end vintage to use as a placeholder or to get your old time hockey collection started!
