Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
The very thing that the game is built off of chasing around a sheet of ice, it is easy to say that without the puck itself there would be no hockey as we know it. Offered here, we present this collection of rubber that includes 178 examples featuring the logos of teams from the NHL, WHA, AHL and Canadian Major Jr. "A" ranks as well as others that fall into the souvenirs and miscellaneous category. Led by a group of professional offerings from the likes of the NHL, WHA, AHL and WHL that includes NHL pucks of Vancouver, Calgary x2, Atlanta and Cleveland that are all 1973-83 Viceroy offerings as well as a 1980-85 In Glas Co - Approved Hartford Whalers specimen. Rounding out the NHL slugs with a 1989 All-Star Game specimen, the rest of the professional pucks includes those of the Minnesota Fighting Saints x3 (WHA - 1975-75 Art Ross - Professional Reverse), Birmingham Barons (WHA - 1972-78 Biltrite - Blank Reverse), Quebec Nordiques (1972-77 Viceroy - Alternate WHA Logo Reverse), Cincinnati Swords (AHL - 1969-77 Converse - Screened Reverse), Phoenix Roadrunners x2 (WHL - 1969-74 Art Ross/Converse Screened Reverse) and Ulf Nilsson (WHA - 1975-76 Winnipeg Jets Player Pucks). For the Canadian Major Jr. "A" offerings, notable biscuits include 1970-75 Cooper Reverse pucks of the Medicine Hat Tigers (x3), a 1974-78 Viceroy Orange Shield Reverse of the Medicine Hat Tigers, 1978-81 Viceroy Orange Shield Reverses of the Brandon Wheat Kings x2 and Saskatoon Blades x7 and 1972-75 Biltrite Blank Reverse of the Medicine Hat Tigers (x2) and Brandon Wheat Kings (x2). For the rest of the WHL offerings, dating from the mid-to-late-1970s to the early-1990s, teams present include those of Medicine Hat, Saskatoon, Lethbridge, Seattle (Breakers and Thunderbirds), Swift Current, Spokane (Flyers), Moose Jaw, Brandon, Regina, Kelowna and Kamloops with most in good condition and others worse off with wear to the logos. For the rest of the lot, including other WHL pucks of teams such as the Lethbridge Broncos, Winnipeg Warriors and Portland Winter Hawks, the remaining bulk includes various souvenir pucks from NHL teams, Hockey Canada and other brands as well as practice pucks, tournament pucks and other non-NHL souvenir pucks as well with most in good condition other than some that show wear to the logos as well as some minor surface wear over either one or both sides. For the older notable pucks listed above, many have flaws and are not high grade with the exception being the Vancouver Canucks example and many of the notable WHL pucks.
