Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Developing in the hockey system of the Soviet Union/Russia during the late-1980s and early-1990s, Roman Oksiuta, a gold medalist at the 1989 World Junior Championships, would be 202nd overall the same summer by the New York Rangers and go on to play a total of 153 NHL games in his career split between Edmonton, Vancouver, Anaheim and Pittsburgh. Offered here, and riginally part of the Michael Wexler collection that was purchased from the team archives in 1997, we offer this photo-matched Edmonton Oilers jersey worn by Oksiuta during the 1993-94 season. Made by CCM with both Maska Air-Knit and size "54" tagging affixed to the inner collar, the CCM and NHL shield logos have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a familiar Oilers team crest in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Oksiuta's number "28" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals while "Oksiuta" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate across the top of the back. Exhibiting good game-wear, stick marks are observed throughout the front and both sleeves with the latter also sporting board burns over the left side as well. Displaying additional wear via a red coloured paint transfer at the top of the team crest on the front, a small unrealized hole at the lower front and a couple of very small spot stains on the right sleeve and lower reverse, the jersey is accompanied by an Oilers LOA and a MeiGray COR. Regarding the aforementioned photo-match, the jersey is matched with Getty Image #1273566024 (February 19th, 1994 vs Toronto) to the stick mark above the "L" in "Oilers" on the team crest.
