Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Prominent Canadian athletes were featured on little cards issued with Dominion Chocolate chocolate bars in the mid-1920s, with kids/consumers given the ability to snip and save the little tabs/coupons at the bottom of the cards and send them in for a variety of prizes (pucks, hockey sticks, footballs, dolls, skates, bats, etc.). Offered here, we present this collection of seven (7) 1924-25 and 1928-29 Dominion Chocolate hockey cards with majority having been graded. Including a total of four (4) PSA graded specimens, the quartet is lead by an example of George Vezina's 1924-25 card that has been deemed worthy of an "Authentic" mark over its label and is followed up by EX 5's of both E.J. Collett and Jack Langtry while the final PSA slab houses a VG 3 example of card #82 that pictures Vernon Forbes over the front. It is also worth mentioning that all but the Vezina still have their coupon affixed at the bottom. For the last graded offering, a copy of Bud Fisher's card from the 1928-29 Dominion Chocolates set is included (mislabelled as being from 1926) that had been inspected by the graders at SGC many moons ago has been deemed worthy of an EX-MT 6 mark and once again, still shows its coupon affixed to the bottom of the card. All the holders show light wear via scratches and scuffs that is worth noting for accuracy. Rounding out the group, the last two cards, found in raw ungraded form, are found via examples of Vernon Forbes and Jack Cameron with the Forbes in the condition neighbourhood of GOOD while sporting a long vertical crease and the Cameron around the scope of EX. Both raw cards are found without their coupon tab at the bottom.
