A classic trio of Topps hockey releases from the early days of the expansions era are to tell you about here, hailing from seasons that saw the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens claim Stanley Cup championships. Offered here, is this collection of Topps hockey sets from 1969-70, 1970-71 and 1971-72. Each sporting checklists of 132 total cards and beginning with the 1969-70 set, the group is found to be made up of mostly lower grade offerings with some mid-grade specimens mixed in as well, largely affected by corner wear and creases. For the set's notables, leading the way condition wise is an unmarked copy of card #132, the checklist, that is unmarked, displays with 90-10 centering and is found to be in the condition range of EX to EX-MT. Followed behind by an EX copy of 10-Beliveau (light corner wear) and then VG-EX to EX cards of 11-Richard (completely off-center on the back), 24-Orr (corner wear all the way around) and 89-Parent (corner wear), the lone VG to VG-EX vicinity card is found through a copy of card #61 picturing Gordie Howe over the front (bottom left corner wear/damage - off-center on the reverse). Rounding out the key's with G to VG examples of 31-Sanderson (bottom left corner crease - off-center on the reverse) and 76-Mikita (light middle crease), cards found in the FR to G condition scope include the set's key rookie card of Serge Savard (creased and corner wear) and 30-P. Esposito (large crease), 45-Horton (multiple creases), 70-Hull (crease in middle).
For the 1970-71 set, mostly in a fairly consistent VG-EX condition range with many of the cards sporting light corner wear, some of the cards also have creases as well as discolouration on the reverse. Led by an EX scope example of card #67, the key rookie card of Brad Park that has light corner wear, the first-year cardboard is followed along by the likes of 1-Cheevers (VG to VG-EX - discoloured on the back), 3-Orr (FR to G - warped and creased), 11-P. Esposito (VG - small mark to the left of his head), 15-Hull (FR to G - warped and water damaged), 20-Mikita (VG to VG-EX - humidity warped), 29-Howe (PR to FR - creased and water damaged), 55-Beliveau (VG to VG-EX - lightly warped on the bottom), 59-Horton (VG-EX - top right corner ding), 78-Parent (G to VG - small crease top left corner), 131-Perrault RC (G to VG - small stain on reverse and top left corner damage) and 132-Checklist (VG-EX to EX - unmarked - stain on back but front looks to be around EX-MT). Finally, the fan favourite 1971-72 set, found to be in an overall condition range of VG-EX to EX for its effort, is affected by some cards at the beginning and end that have rubber band marks. Also having a small stack that are stained on their reverses, light corner wear is observed throughout with some lower grades with creases and water damage present as well. Featuring the key rookie card of Ken Dryden in the neighbourhood of FR to GD condition due to creases, the set is led by EX to EX-MT cards of 20-P. Esposito and 70-Howe and 125-Mikita (very light corner wear). Followed up by the likes of 10-Plante (VG - light crease that shows only on the back), 40-Park (G - miscut), 50-Hull (G to VG - 90-10 centering and corner wear), 60-Perrault (FR to G - water damage), 100-Orr (G - miscut), 110-T.
