Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

Not one to just stand between the pipes, Percy LeSueur was especially innovative during his time goaltending throughout the first decade of the 20th century, with advancements made to the gauntlets worn by netminders, along with a patented goal net that resembled modern examples. From the landmark Imperial Tobacco C56 hockey card set, we present this copy of LeSueur's sought after rookie card with this specimen having been preserved in a PSA holder with the graders deeming it worthy of a VG-EX 4 designation that is displayed over its label. Off-center from left-to-right with the corner/edge wear and toning that is to be expected of a card that is 113 years old, the image on the front retains beautiful colour and richness while the back remains nice and clean. With only fourteen (14) copies of the card having earned the same mark after inspection, two (2) copies display a VG-EX 4 with a qualifier mark and only twenty-seven (27) have ever been graded higher. The PSA holder remains in good condition with light scratches and scuffs over both sides that are worth mentioning for accuracy. A true relic of the past, don’t let your all-important vintage collection go without it!
