Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Raising the art form of penalty killing to an exact science, Derek Sanderson was one of the NHL’s all-time premier practitioners of playing with a man short, with his prodigious face-off abilities and zealous checking forever frustrating the opposition. This lot offers Sanderson's 1970s Massachusetts license plate from his Rolls-Royce, his Rolls-Royce car manual and three vintage photos. First, the license plate sports the number "4U4", with an April 1977 tag, with discolouration and wear to the front, and handwriting with a photo of the car and magazine caption affixed to the reverse. The manual is a hardcover book with "1970" copyright date in the original Rolls-Royce grey slip case, with the book showing light wear and some edge tears and wear to the slip case. The photos are all period prints in the 8" x 10" range, and include Sanderson with Doug Favell circa 1965-66, along with two portrait images of Sanderson nattily attired. The photo with Favell has a description written to the reverse along with a photographer's stamp, while the other two photos have "19 Years Old" handwritten to each reverse. The photos show light to moderate wear.
