Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
The first NHL club to hoist Lord Stanley's coveted grail a consecutive three-times, the Toronto Maple Leafs capped off the threepeat in 1948-49, losing just a single playoff match despite finishing in fourth place during the regular season. Bob Dawes saw action in just 5 regular-season games with the Leafs along with 9 playoff contests. This stick used by Dawes has been team-signed by the 1948-49 Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs. A correct Ernie Evernden Extra Special Pattern Made model with stamps on both sides of the shaft from Brown's Sports and Love & Bennett Ltd, "23" is stamped to the upper shaft (Dawes wore #23, and due to the combination of signature present, the stick can only date to 1948-49), with the original tape to the knob while the blade tape has been removed. The stick shows nice game-use with marks and wear to the shaft. The blade looks like it may have been repaired at the heel, and there are currently a few cracks to the blade that run to the tip. Approx 19 have signed, with 14 signatures legible, with the majority heavily faded. Signers include HOFers Watson, Kennedy, Meeker and Broda, along with Barilko, Ezinicki, Klukay, Timgren, Taylor, Boesch, Metz, Sloan, Juzda and Sid Smith.
