Awarded an expansion franchise on June 8, 1972, the Washington Capitals, along with the Kansas City Scouts, would begin play starting with the 1974-75 season, with the Washington club becoming the first NHL franchise to call the American capital home. Offered here, we present this Washington Capitals jersey that dates to the team's inaugural season of play in 74'-75' and is attributed to have been worn by Nelson Pyatt. A beautiful durene material garment made by Wilson, a label/washing instructions tag displaying a size "50" designation is affixed to the inner collar, "Washington" and "Capitals" is appliqued to the front along with a row of alternating blue or white tackle twill stars observed under the collar. Having been accented over the sleeves and verso with the number "26" in dual layer white-over-blue tackle twill numerals, it is worth mentioning that the jersey has never had a nameplate affixed to it as only the home jerseys worn by the Capitals during that first year did. Attributed to have been worn by Nelson Pyatt during that first season during his 16 games played with the club between March 1st and April 6th, further research shows that André Peloffy and Tony White also wore the number "26" with Peloffy playing nine (9) games between October 9th and December 1st while White skated in five (5) contests from February 8th to February 26th. Exhibiting good game-use, stick marks are seen over the front, through the "C" of the front crest, through the "2" on the reverse and over the left sleeve while team repairs totalling five (5) by our count are views over the front, reverse and left sleeve. Also sporting unrepaired holes at the lower front, a heavy board burn is present at the left hip hem line and a red coloured paint transfer is found over the "6" on the reverse. With heavy stains at the collar, shoulders, lower front and cuffs, the interior of the jersey displays with heavy pilling and pulls and a garter style fight strap has been utilized.
