Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
O-Pee-Chee's change to a 5" by 7" format for its 1939-40 hockey issue may have been in response to the popularity of Bee Hive and Crown Brand pictures at the time with the lot offered here consisting of ten (10) of the intriguing oversized offerings. Including a pair of graded offerings in the form of cards picturing Montreal Canadiens stars Georges Mantha and HOFer Marty Barry, both have been inspected and slabbed by SGC and are housed in older holders that display marks of VG-EX 4 and EX 5 over their respective labels while the holders themselves remain in good condition despite some scratches and scuffs over each that is worth mentioning for accuracy. For the rest of the lot, all found in raw ungraded form, cards present include 62-Carr, 84-Pike (RC), 85-Pratt (HOF - RC), 90-Colville and 99-Bauer (HOF - RC) in the scope of VG-EX condition while the RC of HOFer Bryan Hextall is seen as being in the vicinity of G to VG. Finally, the cards of Mush Marsh and Johnny Gottselig are around the neighbourhood of PR to FR due to things like creases, stains and pinholes over each. Of note, all eight (8) raw cards have handwritten ink notations over their reverses that would either earn them a lower grade or an "MK" designation in their final assessments.
